Darkness Issues
Creator Marc Silvestri says he’s been pondering the idea behind The Darkness for months, years even, which tells you something about the quality of his thought processes. Fortunately he’s bought in Garth Ennis to ‘flesh out’ the characters. A bit. Jackie’s a pretty young mafioso who discovers, on his twenty-first birthday, that he’s the heir to The Darkness, an all-consuming force that allows him to do nasty things to people. As he’s involved in a gang war one suspects this will prove useful in the future. Meanwhile Angelus has been waiting for his first transformation to kill The Darkness at its weakest. A dozen assassins prove unequal to this task. Of course, there’s a price to be paid for this sort of power. If you can get over Silvestri’s slimy art it could be fun. Ennis isn’t exactly stretching himself, but it’s reasonably sharp mind candy and it certainly wastes no time getting going. ~FJ - The Slings & Arrows Comic Guide
